Delem Press Brake Programming

Regardless of controller model, good press brake programming starts with accurate product information. Confirm the material grade, actual sheet thickness, bend angle, inside radius, flange dimensions, tooling, and drawing revision before creating a program.

Graphical controllers can make the process easier by representing the product and tooling visually, but the final result still depends on the real machine, material, tooling, and operator setup.

Automatic bend-sequence calculation can significantly reduce setup time on multi-bend parts. However, calculated sequences should still be reviewed for handling, part weight, surface protection, tooling availability, and operator ergonomics.

Delem Tool Libraries and Press Brake Tooling

Accurate punch and die data is essential for graphical programming and collision detection. If the virtual tool does not match the real tool, the simulation may not accurately represent the physical machine.

Important tooling information includes punch height, angle, tip radius, profile shape, die opening, die height, adapters, segmentation, and tool-station position.

The V-opening has a major effect on bending force, natural inside radius, minimum flange, and surface pressure. Tool selection should therefore be treated as part of the bending process rather than as a simple controller setting.

Material Data, Springback and Bend Correction

Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and high-strength materials can behave very differently during bending.

Springback is the elastic recovery that occurs after bending force is removed. The amount of springback depends on material strength, thickness, tooling, bend radius, and bending method.

Advanced Delem-equipped press brakes may also integrate sensor bending, thickness measurement, or other correction systems to reduce the effect of material variation.

Understanding Press Brake Axes

Common press brake axes include Y1 and Y2 for synchronized ram movement, X for backgauge depth, R for vertical backgauge movement, and Z1/Z2 for lateral finger positioning.

High-end machines can also include X1/X2, independent gauge axes, part-support axes, and other machine-specific functions.

The controller model does not automatically determine the physical axes installed. Always check the machine’s technical specification.

Crowning and Deflection Compensation

Press brakes and tooling deflect under load, especially during long bends. Crowning compensates for this deflection to help maintain a consistent angle across the workpiece.

If both ends of a long bend are correct but the center is too open, crowning or frame-deflection compensation may need attention. If the entire bend is equally open or closed, a general angle correction may be more appropriate.

Common Delem Press Brake Troubleshooting

Problem First Things to Check
Machine will not start Emergency stop, safety circuit, machine-ready status, active alarms, axis references
Backgauge does not move Drive status, axis limits, mechanical obstruction, commanded position
Flange dimension is wrong X-axis target, calibration, finger alignment, physical workpiece contact
Bend angle is wrong Material, actual thickness, tooling, springback, correction values
Center angle differs from ends Crowning, machine deflection, tooling seating, material variation
Collision warning Product geometry, bend sequence, tool data, adapters, machine clearance
USB or file problem Known-good USB drive, file compatibility, permissions, program revision

When an alarm appears, record the exact alarm message before resetting it. Avoid changing multiple machine parameters at once. Service-level problems involving synchronization, drives, hydraulics, sensors, or safety circuits should be handled by qualified personnel.
